Scanner of substances Facilicom

In order to get the right information to employees that work on location, this facilities and technical services provider developed the Stoffenscanner (scanner of substances). It provides technical specialists access to the most important information about the substances they work with.

Exposure on location

The technical specialists of Facilicom work in various jobs and at work, they can be exposed to a wide variety of hazardous substances. It is important that employees are aware of the risks of hazardous substances and that they know what measures they should take.

However, the exposure and the amount of hazardous substances differs with each specialism. There is an overview of substances, but this is hardly used because the register is difficult to browse while on location. The safety sheets also prove to be too complex.

Another problem is that the register of substances does not include enough up to date information about application of dangerous substances in practice. The measures per type of substance are not clear. Moreover, technicians regularly buy substances themselves for tasks on location. It is not clear what substances are advisable or not.

Solutions

An app enables to simply scan the barcode of a substance. The Stoffenscanner directly shows whether the substance is recognised. If so, a brief overview of the most important information is shown:

• Name
• Whether it is a CRM substance (carcinogenic, mutagenic, reprotoxic)
• Risks
• What personal protection is required
• A link to the safety sheet

If the substance is not recognised, the employee can inform the SHE-department, that fills the register. In the future, Facilicom strives to add information about emergency measures.

The Stoffenscanner gives easy access to information about working with hazardous substances. It offers quick access to information and preventive measures.

Future

Facilicom sees opportunities to make the app accessible to more people. Other companies that employ their people on location could use it. It may be supplied by sectors for example.
