Assessment, development and demonstration of alternatives for Parachlorobenzotrifluoride
The emerging solvent Parachlorobenzotrifluoride, is increasingly being used as a substitute for xylene. Since it is not considered to be an ozone depleting compound, it was also exempted from US regulations of VOC (volatile organic compound), which lead to an increasing popularity when other solvents were restricted.
The referenced report investigates the uses of Parachlorobenzotrifluoride, which include automotive body cleaning and cosmetic stain removal. Acetone and soy-based solvents are among the mentioned safer alternatives. Function and costs of the different alternatives are also evaluated.
